Bihar

Bihar is one of the holiest states of East India. Patna, a beautiful and famous city for tourist attractions is the capital of Bihar. Bihar state displays a rich cultural heritage and offers its tourists ancient civilizations, history, culture and religion that India is known for. Tourist Attractions in Bihar

Nalanda - Nalanda is the world's oldest university. This is also the seat of ancient Buddhist philosophy founded in 5th century by the Gupta emperors. Thousands of teachers and students from all over the world were the part of this University. This place was considered as one of the most contemporary centers of learning and religion in the world.

Rajgir Rajgir is very famous tourist destination of Bihar for several reasons. The main two reasons of being famous are that this place is Lord Mahavira's birth place and this is the venue for first Buddhist council. Rajgir is nestled with archaic monuments belonging from 3rd to 12th century. Other tourist attractions of the place are Venurva, Amarvana, Vulture's Peak, Ajatshatru's Fort and Bimbisara's Jail.

Bodhgaya This place is considered the most religious place among all Buddhist tourists. Bodhgaya is the place where the 'Bodhi Tree' is situated. This is the tree under which Lord Buddha meditated and attained enlightenment. Bodhgaya is located in Gaya district of Bihar. This city is also an important Centre of Hindu Pilgrimage. To the east of this magnificent sanctum stands a temple built by Emperor Ashoka.

Patna Patna is the capital city of Bihar. Patna city is famous for many reasons. There are lots of ancient, beautiful, historical monuments and pilgrimage places in the heart of this city. Some of the major tourist attractions of the city are Golghar, Agam Kuan, Patna Museum, Gandhi Maidan and National Institute of Technology.

Vaishali Vaishali district is very near to the capital of Bihar. Vaishali is the place where the second Buddhist council took place. This is one place where Buddha delivered his last sermon after attaining Parinirvana. This place is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

Pawapuri Pawapuri has also its importance in terms of religious place. This place is worshipped among the Jain people as here Lord Mahavira breathed his last around 500 B.C. and was cremated. Today here at this place stands a marble temple, the "Jalmandir". There are some more tourist attractions in this city and they are Harminder Sahib, State Museum, Martyr's Memorial, Sher Shah's mausoleum etc.
